We are proud to announce that BSIE representatives have won the championship at the LEGAL MINDS XVIII Interdepartmental Engineering Debate held on October 12, 2024 in CEAT Lecture Hall, UPLB. Their dedication, preparation, and outstanding performance during the competition have brought great honor to our department.

Engr. Micah M. Punzalan was also awarded the Best Coach during the event.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the team for their remarkable achievement and for representing us with such professionalism. Thank you for your hard work and commitment!

UPLB KAIZERS win the 2024 Industrial Challenge (INCHALL) & Ingenious Summer Camp

IMPRESSIVE TALENTS SHINE as the UPLB KAIZERS win the 2024 Industrial Challenge (INCHALL) & Ingenious Summer Camp, held at ITS Surabaya, Indonesia, last July 29 – August 2, 2024.

This incredible team of IE students composed of Luke Cruz, Carl Cuento, and Laurenz Yu, bested 15 other teams from different countries in several stages of competition designed to test their knowledge, skills, and creativity in solving Industrial and Systems Engineering problems and addressing practical, real-world industrial challenges. 

Mr. Luke Cruz was also awarded as the best participant of the 2024 INCHALL x INGENIOUS Summer Camp.

During the same event, the department was also represented by Assoc. Prof. Diana Marie De Silva who shared her knowledge and expertise as a plenary speaker, and Assoc. Prof. Josefa Angelie Revilla who pursued several research collaborations with the ISE faculty of ITS Surabaya.

The 5-day event composed of both competitive and non-competitive activities was hosted by the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department of the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Surabaya.

Team IE wins 1st runner-up at PIIE National Inter-University Quiz Competition

Huge congratulations to our brilliant students from Team UPLB, John Robert Ang, Lei-Marie Cabildo, Ben Christian Retoma, and Vincent Blue Mosqueza, for finishing as 1st runner-up in the recently concluded PIIE National Inter-University Quiz Competition.

Held last June 29, 2024, during the 20th PIIE National Student Congress at the Adamson University, they competed against other teams from different colleges and universities in the Philippines.
Team UPLB was coached by Engr. Ven-Rem Bill A. Pasion, a faculty member of the UPLB Department of Industrial Engineering.

100% Passing Rate for 14th Certified Industrial Engineer (CIE) exam

IED Quiz Team wins BIG at 14th PIIE CALABARZON Student Chapter Regional Congress

We celebrate big wins as our student and faculty representatives keep the momentum going as they obtain accolades in various academic competitions during the recently held 14th Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineers – CALABARZON Student Chapter Regional Congress last March 1, 2024.

“Double the glory, double the pride” as our IED Quiz Team (Team UPLB) were held the champions of the Regional Quiz Bee Competition. Congratulations to John Robert Ang, Lei-Marie Cabildo, Vincent Blue Mosqueza, Ben Christian Retoma, and their coach, Engr. Ven-Rem Bill Pasion.
In the same light, keeping the innovative spirit alive are the members of Team Yippie Elbi, the IED Hackathon Team, who were recognized as the champions of the Regional Design Sprint Hackathon. Congratulations to Vince Christian Aligui, Richelle Estanislao, Mark Angelo Fabreag, Manuel Opeña, and their coach, Engr. Julius Angelo Galang.

We are incredibly proud of the student representatives, as well as their respective coaches, for their stellar performance in the IEshikawa 18 Academic Competitions held last February 23, 2024 at UP Diliman.

Former IE Dept Chairperson Dr. Layaoen appointed as UPMO Director

The UPLB Department of Industrial Engineering congratulates our very own Dr. Haerold Dean Z. Layaoen as the newly appointed Director of the University Planning and Maintenance Office (UPMO) under the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development.

Dr. Layaoen, an esteemed faculty member of the Department of Industrial Engineering, College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology, completed his PhD in Supply Chain and Logistics at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) in Melbourne Australia. He served as the Department Chairman for two terms from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2017 where he spearheaded some significant developments of the IE Department especially the improvements of its building and facilities. He was the first graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering program of UPLB. He finished his Master of Science in Industrial Engineering major in Production Systems at UP Diliman. Prior his academic stint, he worked as a Manufacturing IE and Supervisor at a multi-national company. He is Six Sigma Green Belt certified and was Top 5 in the Six Sigma certification exam. Prior his PhD, he also served as operations, productivity and efficiency consultant of some firms and academic offices.
